Livingston Christian Schools Fifth Grade Sept. 28-Oct.2

Bible: As we continue the study of Genesis, we come to period of time in which Abraham lived. Even today, we enjoy the convenant that God with him and learn about his promised son, Isaac. Quiz 2 is set for Tuesday, Sept. 29. Students have notes from which to study. Memory work on Psalms 19:1-6 is due Friday, Oct. 2.

Spelling: List 3 words are agriculture terms. The pre-test and final test are set for Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Spelling sentences are due Thursday, Oct. 1.

Language Arts: The reading selection is entitled How Did We Find Out the Earth is Round?, pgs. 122-139. While reading, students should pay attention to the questions and conjectures offered by the author. The comprehension quiz is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30 and will be due the next day.

Grammar lessons focus on the review of helping, compound, and being verbs in addition to selecting the principal parts of selected verbs. A test will be scheduled for next week.

Writing Workshop time will be devoted to editing and revising the kitchen story. It should be typed, double-spaced in 12 font by Friday, Oct. 2. I will work with students individually to make corrections.

Math: Chapter 1 math test is set for Monday, Sept. 28. Chapter 2 highlights measuring length, perimeter and area, and scale drawings.

History: This week, each student will be assigned an explorer from the 1400-1500's to research and prepare a presentation for the class. This in-school project will take several weeks.

Science: Students will use their posters they created last week to teach the class about the 6 systems of the body. Notes will be given to help students prepare for the upcoming science test next week.

Other:

*Ice cream social open house is Tuesday, Sept. 29 @ 5 PM. Classrooms open at 5:30 PM.
*Book report due Wed., Sept. 30.
*Field trip coming soon! We're going to the Health Exploration Station on ______. Please return the attached sheet indicating your preferences.
*Each student needs to donate three cleaned, labels removed 2-liter pop bottles by Oct. 2. These will be used for an upcoming science project.
