Livingston Christian Schools 5th Grade November 30-December 4

Bible: We continue to see God at work for the Hebrew people as they are enslaved by Eygpt. The final plague, the death angel, passes over the Hebrews but kills the firstborn in every Eygptian home. After 400 years of slavery, they will finally be freed. Notes will provided for Quiz 8 and Psalm 1:1-3, both scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4.

Spelling: List 11 words are American cities and the state's abbreviation. The pre-test and final test are on Wenesday and Friday, respectively. During the pre-test and test, I will say the city and state name, but students should be able to give the correct abbreviation for the state. Spelling sentences are due Thursday, Dec. 3.

Language Arts: The reading selection this week is entitled The Night We Started Dancing, pgs. 268-283. This story tells about an extended family from Guatamala that remains close despite the death of two its members. The comprehension quiz is set for Wednesday, Dec. 2. All of the prepositions should be memorized by Tuesday, Dec. 8 for a quiz.

Grammar lessons take us into chapter 4 where students will have more practice locating subjects and diagraming sentences.

Writing Workshop time will be devoted completing the position paper. Students have written the introductory paragraph which helps them set the stage for the rest of the paper. The hardest part is done!!

Math: Students will review material from chapter 4 on multiplying and dividing decimals in preparation for a test on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Chapter 5 highlights number patterns and fractions.

History: Chapter 4 history test is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1. Students have had notes for several weeks

Science: Notes will provided this week to review traits, DNA, and genetics

Other:
*Book report - due today, Nov. 30.
*Book-it slips due today, Nov. 30.
*Student name exchange for the Christmas party will take place soon.
*Wednesday, Dec. 2 Leslie Nature Center comes to LCS for Backyard Science afternoon.
*Analogy meet - Wednesday, Dec. 9.
