Livingston Christian Schools Fifth Grade December 14-18

Bible: After learning about the tabernacle and its symbolic furniture, students will now study the types of Levitical offerings the priests offered as sacrifices to God. We will discuss how we can apply this understanding to our lives today even though we no longer make animal sacrifices. Psalm 1:1-5 and Bible quiz 10 are set for Friday, December 18.

Spelling: List 13 words are health and medical terms. Spelling sentences are due Thursday, Dec. 17. The pre-test and final test are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday, respectively.

Language Arts: The reading selection this week is entitled The Night Journey, pgs. 314-337. In this story, we observe the author's use of suspense and dialogue. A comprehension quiz is due Thursday, December 17.

Grammar lessons provide practice in locating out-of-the-ordinary subjects and verbs, identifying the four types of sentences, and diagramming subjects/verbs.

Writing Workshop time will be devoted to learning how to write the bibliography for the position paper. The position paper typed rough draft is due December 18 or before. The sooner you get it to me, the more quickly I can return it you with final editing suggestions. The final paper is due Tuesday, December 22. Check your final paper with the rubric I gave you so you can get a "4" paper!!! Students will also enjoy journal writing just for fun.

Math: Lessons this week highlight concepts such as mixed numbers and improper fractions, and changing decimals to fractions. The next math test will be Tuesday, December 22.

History: This week students will be assigned groups to work on the next history project. Each group will be assigned a portion of the next chapters to teach the class about the New England colonies that developed after Jamestown and Plymouth were established. The project will be due after Christmas sometime.

Science: On Monday December 21, a science test will given over chapter 3 - Traits of Living Things. Notes are available in the science binders.

*Tuesday musical performance, 6:15 arrival of 5th graders
*Congratulations to Christopher for the top score on the analogy meet
*Christmas caroling to neighbors on Monday or Tuesday - December 21 or 22. If any parents would like to accompany us, I'll be sending more details home soon. We usually go to a house right near the school and to a church down the road. All locations are within walking distance.
*Don't forget your secret pal this week!!! Jesus' birthday party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 22.
