Livingston Christian Schools 5th Grade November 16-20

Bible: We will continue to study the life of Moses for whom God had a plan before he was even born. We see he spends 40 years in Eygpt, 40 years in the desert of Midian, and 40 years as a leader of Israel. Students will observe many positive character qualities Moses developed over all those years. We will seek to apply these to our own lives. Bible memory is Psalm 1:1-2 due on Friday, Nov. 20. Bible quiz 7 is set for Thursday, Nov. 19.

Spelling: List 10 words are geography terms. The final test is Friday, Nov. 20.

Language Arts: The reading selection this week is entitled History of the Tunrit, pgs. 266-267. This is a song from the Eskimo peoples. The comprehension quiz is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Grammar lessons will continue to provide practice in locating subjects, verbs, prepositional phrases, and spelling plural words correctly. Prepositions 1-40 will be quizzed on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

Writing Workshop time will be devoted to drafting the position paper. Students have selected their topics, found several articles to read, and now will begin crafting the introductory paragraph and writing the thesis statement. Other creative writing options will also be provided.

Math: multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, dividing by decimals, and mass and capacity.

History: We have learned the beginning of New Spain, New France, and New England in the New World. This week we will highlight New England's first successful colonies Jamestown and Plymouth. Students will develop a Travel Guide for enticing Europeans, especially the English, to come to live in New England. This is due Thursday, Nov. 19.

Science: The next chapter highlights the traits of living things. Students will understand combinations of triats and investigate how traits are inherited. Some vocabulary words include chromosome, heredity, mutation, DNA, gene, recessive, dominant
